Precautions for Electrophysiologic Study (EPS) and Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation (RFCA)

If the ablation is successful processed, you will be transferred to the intensive care unit for observation of vital signs and monitoring for any arrhythmias, as per the doctor’s instructions.

  1. After the procedure, you may try drinking water. If there are no discomforts, you may proceed to eat.

  2. Apply pressure with sandbags on both groin areas for 4-6 hours. Avoid raising the head and keep the affected knee straight without bending.

  3. Keep the incision clean and dry, and be mindful of any stickiness or moisture (indicating a tendency for bleeding).

  4. If you need to cough or sneeze, press on the incision to prevent bleeding.

  5. After an appropriate rest period of 8 hours, you may start getting out of bed and engaging in activities.

  6. The day after the procedure, a nurse will assist in changing the dressing at the puncture site.

  7. Schedule a follow-up visit one week after the procedure and adhere to the doctor’s instructions for timely examinations.

  8. Pay attention to any discomfort such as palpitations, chest tightness, or shortness of breath. If experienced, you should return for follow-up and monitoring.

  9. You can resume all previous activities and have a normal diet.

  10. On the day after discharge, you may remove the dressing at the puncture site. Be mindful of any delayed bleeding or hematoma formation. If experienced, please return for prompt medical attention.

  11. If you have any questions, feel free to call for consultation at (04)8326161-2202, Cardiac Catheterization Center.
